Abu Dhabi Launches New Programme to Help Home-Based Family Businesses Go Professional

By Thasmiya
Home-based businesses in Abu Dhabi are getting new support to take their ideas to the next level.
The Authority of Social Contribution – Ma’an has launched **My Family Innovates**, a new programme designed to help productive families develop their home-based ventures into more competitive, sustainable and market-ready businesses.
From entrepreneurship and branding to digital marketing and artificial intelligence, the programme will give participants practical skills that can help turn small family ventures into more professionally run businesses.
## **What is the My Family Innovates programme?**
My Family Innovates is a new initiative from the Authority of Social Contribution – Ma’an, which is part of Abu Dhabi’s Department of Community Development.
It has been launched in alignment with the UAE’s **Year of the Family 2026** and focuses on supporting productive families and members of the wider community at different stages of their entrepreneurial journey.
Rather than simply providing financial assistance, the programme focuses on giving participants the knowledge and practical skills required to develop stronger businesses.
## **Who can benefit from the programme?**
The initiative aims to empower **150 people across Abu Dhabi**.
It is designed for productive families as well as members of the wider community who are at different stages of developing a business.
Importantly, the programme also includes opportunities for **low-income families and People of Determination**, helping make entrepreneurship and business development more accessible.
## **What skills will participants learn?**
The programme focuses on practical skills that can help a small or home-based business become more professional.
Participants will receive support in areas including **entrepreneurship, business management, branding, digital marketing, artificial intelligence tools and market readiness**.
For someone already making products or providing services from home, these skills could help improve everything from how the business is presented online to how it attracts customers and manages day-to-day operations.
## **AI will be part of the training**
One particularly relevant part of the programme is the inclusion of artificial intelligence.
Small businesses increasingly use AI for tasks such as creating marketing content, developing ideas, organising information, communicating with customers and improving productivity.
Teaching participants how to use these tools could help home businesses operate more efficiently without immediately needing large teams or expensive resources.
## **From home business to market-ready brand**
The programme is ultimately about helping families move beyond simply selling a product or service from home.
Business-management training can help participants better organise their operations, while branding and digital-marketing skills can improve how their products are presented and discovered.
Market-readiness training can then help entrepreneurs understand what may be required to compete more effectively and grow sustainably.
Ma’an says the programme is intended to help families adapt to emerging opportunities and build stronger, more sustainable businesses.
## **Volunteers will help deliver the programme**
Another important element is community participation.
The learning experiences will be supported by volunteers who provide hands-on guidance while encouraging innovation, creativity and community engagement.
Ma’an says the approach combines **learning, mentorship and community involvement**, with the aim of strengthening families’ independence and enabling greater participation in Abu Dhabi’s economy and society.
## **Abu Dhabi is also making it easier to run businesses without offices**
The new programme arrives as Abu Dhabi continues introducing measures designed to make entrepreneurship easier.
In September 2026, the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development extended by another year the period during which eligible **Tajer Abu Dhabi licence holders** can operate without having physical business premises.
The measure applies to licences whose existing office-free period expires during 2026 and is intended to reduce the cost of establishing and launching a business.
Tajer Abu Dhabi has also expanded significantly since its launch in 2017. The number of activities available under the licence has grown from 30 to **more than 1,200**, while new licences increased by 24% in 2025 and another 8% during the first half of 2026.
## **More support for home-based entrepreneurship**
Abu Dhabi also offers licensing routes that can make small-scale entrepreneurship more accessible.
The Abu Dhabi Registration Authority’s Freelancer Licence, for example, is available to UAE nationals and residents across more than 100 activities and does not require an office, allowing eligible licence holders to operate directly from home.
Earlier in 2026, ADDED also launched the **Entrepreneurial Families Initiative** in Al Ain to help families participate more actively in Abu Dhabi’s economic ecosystem.
Together, these initiatives show a broader push to help people move from informal ideas and home-based activities towards sustainable entrepreneurship.
## **Why this matters**
A home business can begin with something as simple as cooking, crafts, fashion, beauty services, design or another family skill. Turning that idea into a sustainable business, however, requires much more than having a good product.
Entrepreneurs need branding, marketing, financial and operational knowledge, digital skills and an understanding of their market.
**My Family Innovates** aims to bridge that gap.
By giving 150 participants practical training and mentorship, Abu Dhabi is helping families turn existing talents into stronger businesses while encouraging greater financial independence and participation in the local economy.
For small home-based entrepreneurs, this could be an important step from **“selling from home” to building a real brand.**
