Dubai has taken a new step forward with the **Rashid Villages** initiative, a global humanitarian project designed to support underprivileged families through housing, education, healthcare and essential social services.

The latest progress was reviewed during the second meeting of the Supervisory Committee of Rashid Villages, chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the committee.

The meeting focused on construction progress, approved plans, service initiatives, governance systems and coordination between partner entities to ensure the project stays on schedule.

## What is the Rashid Villages initiative?

Rashid Villages is a charitable humanitarian initiative launched in 2025 by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence.

The initiative was launched to mark the tenth anniversary of the passing of Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and to carry forward his humanitarian values.

The project aims to establish integrated model villages for underprivileged families, giving them access to decent housing, education, healthcare, social services and economic opportunities.

## What was reviewed in the latest meeting?

During the second meeting of the Supervisory Committee, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed reviewed the latest progress of the project and the implementation of approved plans.

The committee reviewed updates on master planning, construction work, associated services and initiatives designed for beneficiary families.

It also reviewed the work of task forces and partner organisations, along with monitoring systems that track performance, governance and delivery.

The main focus was to ensure the project continues according to approved timelines and delivers real impact for families.

## Why the project is more than housing

Rashid Villages is not designed only as a housing project.

It is intended to create complete communities where families can live with dignity, stability and opportunity.

The model includes homes, education, healthcare, social support, economic empowerment and community facilities. This approach aims to help families move from dependency to stability and productivity.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed said the initiative is a long-term investment in people, families and society, and that its success will be measured by its ability to create a safer and more prosperous future for beneficiaries.

## First Rashid Village to be built in Kenya

The first phase of the initiative will begin in the Republic of Kenya.

According to the Government of Dubai Media Office, the first Rashid Village will be built over **72 dunums**, equal to about **7.2 hectares**, using sustainable development principles and renewable energy sources.

The village is expected to benefit around **1,700 people**, making it a major humanitarian project for hundreds of families.

## What facilities will the village include?

The first Rashid Village will include fully furnished homes to provide families with stability and dignity.

It will also feature a mosque, a multi-purpose hall that can accommodate more than **500 people**, paved streets, endowment-based commercial outlets, a football pitch, a sports academy and community facilities.

The village will use modern infrastructure such as solar-powered lighting, fire alarm systems and surveillance systems to support safety and sustainability.

## Education as a key part of the project

Education is one of the main pillars of Rashid Villages.

The initiative includes the **Rashid Education Project**, developed in collaboration with [The Digital School](https://thedigitalschool.org/), which is part of [Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives](https://www.almaktouminitiatives.org/).

The project will provide children with quality education through an integrated digital learning system.

The village will also include a modern school that can accommodate more than **320 students**, helping children access learning opportunities and build better futures.

## Healthcare and preventive medical services

Healthcare is another key component of the village model.

The first village will include a health centre offering medical and therapeutic care for residents.

It will also include water and sanitation infrastructure, overhead and underground water tanks, and wells to secure continuous access to fresh water.

The initiative will work with reputable international humanitarian organisations to provide preventive medical services, improve community health and train residents in first aid and preventive care.

## Economic empowerment for families

Rashid Villages is also designed to support long-term economic stability.

The project will include vocational training and micro-enterprise programmes to help families develop skills, generate income and reduce dependence on aid.

Commercial outlets within the village will also support local economic activity and create sustainable income opportunities.

This model reflects a shift from temporary relief to long-term empowerment.

## A model village every year

The initiative is designed to grow beyond one location.

Dubai Media Office said Rashid Villages will continue expanding its humanitarian impact by building **one model village every year**.

This long-term approach aims to create sustainable communities in developing regions and bring lasting change to families who need support.

## Supervisory Committee’s role

The Supervisory Committee of Rashid Villages was formed by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed through Decision No. 1 of 2026.

The committee is responsible for overseeing the project, approving plans and initiatives, following up on implementation, coordinating between entities, approving reports, setting policies and frameworks, managing risks and ensuring the best use of resources.

This governance structure is meant to keep the project organised, accountable and aligned with its humanitarian goals.

## Why this matters

The Rashid Villages initiative is important because it represents a new model of humanitarian support from Dubai.

Instead of offering only short-term aid, the project focuses on building integrated communities where families can access housing, schooling, healthcare, safety, economic opportunity and social support.

For Dubai, it strengthens the emirate’s role as a global humanitarian hub. For beneficiary families, it can provide a path towards dignity, independence and long-term stability.

As the initiative expands, Rashid Villages could become a model for sustainable humanitarian communities in different parts of the world.
