Dubai Gold Prices Dip Today: What 24K and 22K Buyers Need to Know

By Thasmiya

Gold prices in Dubai moved lower on **Friday, September 4, 2026**, giving jewellery shoppers a small price break after Thursday’s sharp rise.

The latest Dubai rates put **24K gold at AED 539.25 per gram**, while **22K gold dropped below AED 500 to AED 499.25 per gram**. Both are AED 2.75 cheaper per gram compared with Thursday evening’s closing rates.

The decline comes as international gold markets await key US employment data that could influence the Federal Reserve’s next interest-rate decision.

## **What are Dubai gold prices today?**

As of Friday morning, September 4:

**24K gold:** AED 539.25 per gram **22K gold:** AED 499.25 per gram **21K gold:** AED 478.75 per gram **18K gold:** AED 410.25 per gram **14K gold:** AED 320 per gram

The 24K rate declined from **AED 542 per gram** at Thursday’s close, while 22K fell from **AED 502 to AED 499.25**.

## **How much cheaper is gold today?**

Both 24K and 22K have fallen by **AED 2.75 per gram** from Thursday evening.

For someone buying 10 grams, that represents a reduction of **AED 27.50** in the underlying gold value.

A 20-gram purchase would be around **AED 55 cheaper**, while 50 grams represents a difference of approximately **AED 137.50** compared with Thursday’s closing rate.

These calculations cover the gold value only. Jewellery buyers will still need to account for making charges, VAT and any other applicable retail costs.

## **Why did Dubai gold prices fall?**

The latest decline follows a strong rise in gold on Thursday.

International spot gold was trading around **$4,467 an ounce**, down roughly 0.57% in the latest pricing cited by Gulf News. Markets are now closely watching the US nonfarm payrolls report for clues about the Federal Reserve’s September interest-rate decision.

Expectations of a September US rate hike had earlier climbed to around 70%, but subsequently eased to approximately 50% following comments from Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller.

## **Why do US interest rates affect Dubai gold prices?**

Gold does not pay interest.

When interest rates rise, investments such as bonds and other interest-bearing assets can become more attractive relative to gold. Expectations of higher rates can therefore put downward pressure on bullion.

If economic data suggests the Federal Reserve does not need to raise rates, the opposite can happen and gold may receive additional support.

This is why US employment and inflation reports can affect the price shoppers see at jewellery stores in Dubai.

## **Is gold actually cheap right now?**

Today’s decline gives buyers a slightly better rate than Thursday evening, but gold remains expensive by recent standards.

For perspective, Dubai’s 24K rate stood at **AED 479.75 per gram on July 17**, when prices reached a 90-day low. That means today’s AED 539.25 rate remains nearly AED 60 per gram above that July level.

Gold has also experienced significant swings during August. The 24K rate reached AED 560 per gram on August 25 before subsequently falling and recovering again.

So today’s move should be viewed as a modest daily dip rather than a return to the year’s lower price levels.

## **Is this a good time to buy gold jewellery?**

For people already planning to buy jewellery, the fall below AED 500 for 22K provides a small saving compared with Thursday.

The timing could also attract attention ahead of the upcoming festive buying period, including **Navratri, Dussehra and Diwali**, when demand for gold jewellery traditionally increases among many UAE residents. Jewellers expect demand to strengthen heading into the festive season.

However, anyone waiting for a much larger decline should remember that gold prices remain highly sensitive to economic and geopolitical developments.

Today’s lower rate does not guarantee that prices will continue falling.

## **24K or 22K: Which should you buy?**

**24K gold** has a higher purity and is commonly preferred for investment products such as gold bars and coins.

**22K gold** contains additional metals that make it stronger, which is why it is commonly used for traditional jewellery.

For jewellery shoppers, therefore, the 22K rate of AED 499.25 may be the more relevant number to watch.

For investors buying bullion primarily for its gold content, 24K is generally the more relevant benchmark.

## **Don’t look only at the gold rate**

The displayed per-gram gold price is only part of what jewellery ultimately costs.

A piece may also include making charges, design costs and VAT. Making charges can differ significantly depending on the retailer and complexity of the jewellery.

When comparing shops, ask for the complete final price rather than comparing only the day’s gold rate.

Making charges may also have more room for negotiation than the underlying gold price, particularly when purchasing larger pieces.

## **Could gold prices fall further?**

It is possible, but the next move will depend heavily on incoming US economic data.

A stronger-than-expected jobs report could strengthen expectations that US interest rates need to remain higher or rise, potentially putting pressure on gold.

A weaker jobs report could reduce those expectations and support bullion prices.

Markets are also waiting for US inflation figures next week, while central-bank demand and geopolitical developments remain important influences on gold.

## **What UAE buyers should do**

If you are buying jewellery for an upcoming wedding, festival or gift and were already planning the purchase, today’s decline offers a slightly better entry point than Thursday evening.

If you are buying purely as an investment, avoid making a decision based on a single day’s AED 2.75 movement. Compare current rates with recent weeks and months and consider buying gradually rather than trying to predict the exact bottom.

Jewellery shoppers should also compare making charges between retailers because these can have a meaningful impact on the final bill.

Most importantly, check the live Dubai gold rate immediately before purchasing because prices can be updated several times during the trading day.

## **Why this matters**

Dubai’s gold market has been volatile, and even relatively small daily changes can translate into noticeable savings on larger purchases.

On September 4, **24K has fallen to AED 539.25 per gram and 22K to AED 499.25**, providing shoppers with some relief from Thursday evening’s higher prices.

But today’s decline does not necessarily mean a sustained fall has begun. US jobs data, inflation figures, Federal Reserve expectations, the dollar and geopolitical developments could all push prices in either direction.

For UAE shoppers, the takeaway is simple: **gold is cheaper than yesterday, but it is still expensive compared with some of the lows seen earlier this summer.**
