Dubai Gold Prices Drop as Rate-Hike Bets Rise: 24K and 22K Rates Fall

Gold prices in Dubai have moved lower this week, offering some relief to UAE shoppers as expectations of further US interest-rate increases put pressure on the precious metal.

On Thursday, September 24, Dubai gold rates were down by roughly **AED 10 per gram compared with levels seen earlier in the week**, while global bullion remained under pressure from higher-for-longer interest-rate expectations, inflation concerns and movements in the US dollar.

## **What are Dubai gold prices today?**

According to live rates provided by the Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group, the morning rates on **September 24, 2026** were:

**24K gold:** AED 516.25 per gram **22K gold:** AED 478.00 per gram **21K gold:** AED 458.25 per gram **18K gold:** AED 393.00 per gram **14K gold:** AED 306.50 per gram

Gold rates can change several times during the trading day, so shoppers should check the latest price before making a purchase.

## **Gold is cheaper than earlier this week**

The decline becomes clearer when comparing current rates with the beginning of the week.

On September 20, 24K gold was AED 527.50 per gram and 22K was AED 488.50. By the morning of September 24, those rates had fallen to AED 516.25 and AED 478 respectively.

That represents a drop of **AED 11.25 per gram for 24K** and **AED 10.50 per gram for 22K** compared with September 20.

For someone buying a larger quantity of jewellery, even a AED 10-per-gram movement can make a noticeable difference before making charges and other costs are added.

## **Why are gold prices falling?**

The biggest factor currently weighing on gold is renewed speculation that the US Federal Reserve could raise interest rates again.

Recent stronger-than-expected US economic data and inflation pressures have increased expectations that monetary policy could remain restrictive. Reuters reported that markets were assigning about a **90% probability to another rate increase in December** as of September 22.

Higher interest rates generally create a challenging environment for gold because the metal itself does not pay interest. When yields on other assets rise, investors may find those alternatives comparatively more attractive.

## **A stronger dollar is also putting pressure on gold**

Expectations of higher US rates have also supported the dollar.

Because international gold is priced primarily in US dollars, a stronger dollar can make bullion more expensive for buyers using other currencies, potentially reducing demand.

Reuters reported earlier this week that spot gold fell as rising expectations of another Federal Reserve rate hike strengthened the dollar and reduced demand for the precious metal.

## **What is happening to international gold?**

Global gold has also weakened.

On September 22, spot gold declined around 0.4% to approximately **$4,325 per ounce**, while US gold futures slipped about 0.5%.

By Thursday morning, Khaleej Times reported spot gold at around **$4,291.30 per ounce at 9am UAE time**, while Dubai’s 24K rate was around AED 517 per gram at that point in the morning.

These international movements feed directly into Dubai retail gold rates.

## **How much have Dubai gold prices moved this month?**

September has been particularly volatile.

Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group historical data shows 24K gold reached **AED 542 per gram on September 3**, before dropping to AED 516.25 on September 24.

The same data shows 22K moving from **AED 502 per gram on September 3 to AED 478** on September 24.

That means shoppers are currently seeing noticeably lower prices than at some of the month’s peaks.

## **Is this good news for UAE jewellery shoppers?**

Lower gold rates reduce the basic metal cost of jewellery, which can make the current decline attractive to shoppers who were already planning a purchase.

However, the displayed gold rate is not necessarily the final amount paid at a jewellery store.

Customers may also need to account for **making charges and VAT**, depending on the purchase. Making charges can differ considerably depending on the complexity, craftsmanship and retailer.

Shoppers should therefore compare the final price rather than judging a jewellery purchase solely by the daily per-gram gold rate.

## **Could Dubai gold prices fall further?**

That remains uncertain.

Gold is currently being pulled in different directions. Higher interest rates and a stronger dollar can pressure prices, while geopolitical uncertainty and safe-haven demand can support them.

Oil prices and inflation expectations are also influencing the outlook because persistent inflation could encourage central banks to maintain tighter monetary policy.

Rather than assuming prices will continue falling, UAE buyers should monitor the daily Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group rate and consider their reason for buying.

## **Why Dubai gold prices change throughout the day**

Dubai’s gold prices closely track movements in international bullion markets.

Changes in the global spot price, US dollar, interest-rate expectations, geopolitical developments, central-bank policy and investor demand can therefore affect local prices.

This is why the price displayed in a Dubai jewellery shop in the morning may differ from the rate later the same day.

## **Why this matters**

For UAE residents planning to buy jewellery, the latest decline means gold is cheaper than it was earlier this week.

With 24K falling by more than AED 11 per gram compared with September 20 and 22K down by more than AED 10, larger purchases could see a meaningful difference in their underlying gold cost.

But gold remains volatile. Further moves will depend heavily on US interest rates, inflation, the dollar, oil prices and geopolitical developments.

For shoppers, checking the live Dubai rate immediately before buying remains the simplest way to know exactly where the market stands.
