Gold prices moved higher in Dubai on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, as investors turned their attention to the US Federal Reserve’s upcoming interest-rate decision.

The move has pushed UAE retail gold rates higher, with 24K gold climbing above AED 521 per gram during morning trading. Internationally, spot gold also gained as markets weighed inflation concerns, high energy prices and expectations of a possible US interest-rate hike.

## **Dubai gold prices today**

According to rates supplied by the Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group, the UAE morning gold rates on September 16 were:

**24K gold:** AED 521.25 per gram **22K gold:** AED 482.50 per gram **21K gold:** AED 462.75 per gram **18K gold:** AED 396.75 per gram **14K gold:** AED 309.25 per gram

The rates represent an increase from the previous day’s levels of AED 517.50 for 24K, AED 479.25 for 22K, AED 459.50 for 21K and AED 394 for 18K. Gold rates can change several times during the day.

## **24K gold gains AED 3.75 overnight**

For UAE shoppers, the most noticeable movement was in 24K gold.

The morning rate increased from AED 517.50 to AED 521.25 per gram — an overnight rise of **AED 3.75 per gram**.

Meanwhile, 22K gold, which is widely used for jewellery purchases in the UAE, increased by AED 3.25 to AED 482.50 per gram.

## **Global gold prices also move higher**

International gold prices strengthened ahead of the Federal Reserve announcement.

Spot gold rose around 0.8% to approximately **$4,326.83 per ounce** during Wednesday trading, recovering from losses that had taken the precious metal to a one-month low earlier in the week.

The movement comes during a volatile period for bullion, with investors watching interest rates, inflation, oil prices and geopolitical developments.

## **Why is everyone watching the US Federal Reserve?**

The Federal Reserve’s September policy meeting is particularly important for gold because markets are expecting US interest rates could rise.

A Reuters poll published ahead of the meeting found that **85% of economists surveyed expected a 25-basis-point increase**, which would take the federal funds target range to 3.75%-4.00%. Market pricing on Wednesday indicated an even higher probability of a quarter-point increase.

Interest-rate decisions can have a significant impact on gold because bullion does not pay interest.

Higher interest rates can make interest-bearing assets more attractive relative to gold. A more hawkish-than-expected Federal Reserve message could therefore put pressure on bullion, while a softer policy outlook could support prices.

## **Oil prices are adding another factor**

Energy prices have also become important to the gold market.

Oil has remained above $100 per barrel amid supply concerns in the Middle East, increasing worries about inflation. Brent crude was trading around $107.53 per barrel on Wednesday after declining from its recent rally.

Higher energy costs can contribute to broader inflation, potentially encouraging central banks to maintain tighter monetary policy.

Gold traditionally attracts demand as an inflation hedge, but higher interest rates intended to control that inflation can simultaneously create pressure on the non-yielding metal.

That tension is contributing to the current volatility.

## **Dubai gold has seen major swings this September**

UAE shoppers have already experienced significant price movements this month.

Dubai’s 24K rate began September at **AED 522 per gram** before rising to AED 542 on September 3. It subsequently moved above AED 530 several times before dropping toward AED 517.50 earlier this week.

That means Wednesday’s increase is a recovery from recent lows rather than a return to the month’s highest levels.

For jewellery buyers, these movements can make a noticeable difference when purchasing larger quantities.

Anyone planning a jewellery purchase should remember that the displayed gold rate is only part of the final price.

Retailers generally add making charges and other applicable costs depending on the jewellery design and store.

Gold prices can also change throughout the trading day, meaning the morning rate may not necessarily be the rate available later in the afternoon or evening.

For larger purchases, even a small per-gram movement can make a meaningful difference to the final bill.

## **Should shoppers expect more movement today?**

Volatility could continue around the Federal Reserve announcement.

Markets will be watching not only whether US policymakers change interest rates, but also the language used by the Fed about inflation and the possibility of further rate increases.

Reuters reported that analysts see a more hawkish Fed stance as a potential source of pressure on gold, while softer signals could support the precious metal.

UAE gold prices generally follow international bullion movements, adjusted into dirhams and local retail rates.

## **Why this matters**

Gold remains particularly important in the UAE, where jewellery buying, investment demand and the Dubai Gold Souk make daily price movements highly visible to consumers.

On September 16, prices have moved higher again, with 24K reaching AED 521.25 per gram and 22K reaching AED 482.50 in the morning.

The next major trigger is now the US Federal Reserve decision. Depending on the outcome and the Fed’s outlook for future interest rates, Dubai gold prices could see further movement.

For anyone planning to buy gold today, checking the latest rate immediately before making the purchase is particularly important.
