Dubai Harbour Bridge Nears Completion: New SZR Link to Cut Travel Time From 12 Minutes to 3

Dubai’s new bridge linking [Sheikh Zayed Road](https://www.rta.ae/) to [Dubai Harbour](https://www.dubaiharbour.com/) is now close to completion, with the project expected to significantly reduce travel time to one of the city’s major waterfront destinations.
Dubai’s [Roads and Transport Authority](https://www.rta.ae/) has completed **90 per cent** of the bridge project, according to reports. Once open, the direct link is expected to cut travel time between Sheikh Zayed Road and Dubai Harbour from around **12 minutes to just 3 minutes**.
That means the journey could become about **75 per cent faster**, improving access for residents, visitors, hotel guests, marina users and people travelling to nearby communities.
## What is the Dubai Harbour Bridge project?
The project is a new direct road connection between Sheikh Zayed Road and Dubai Harbour.
The bridge starts from **Interchange 5 on Sheikh Zayed Road**, near the American University in Dubai, and extends towards Dubai Harbour Street. It crosses several key intersections along the route and is designed to make entry and exit to Dubai Harbour much smoother.
The project is being developed by RTA in collaboration with [Shamal Holding](https://www.shamalholding.com/), the Dubai-based investment company behind Dubai Harbour.
## How much travel time will it save?
The biggest benefit is the travel-time reduction.
Once the bridge opens, journey time between Sheikh Zayed Road and Dubai Harbour is expected to drop from **12 minutes to 3 minutes**.
This is a major improvement for drivers who currently face slower access through surrounding roads and intersections. The new link will help traffic move more directly into and out of Dubai Harbour, especially during peak hours, events and busy weekend periods.
## How big is the bridge?
The Dubai Harbour Bridge is around **1,500 metres long** and will have **two lanes in each direction**.
RTA says the bridge will be able to handle up to **6,000 vehicles per hour** in both directions.
The project also includes improvement works at **four key intersections** along the bridge corridor, which should support smoother traffic flow not only to Dubai Harbour but also to nearby areas.
## When will the bridge open?
The bridge is expected to open in phases.
ARN News Centre reported that RTA plans to start opening the Dubai Harbour Bridge project to traffic from **June 2026**, after confirming that the project had reached 90 per cent completion.
Earlier updates from Dubai Media Office said the project was expected to be completed in the **third quarter of 2026**. Travellers should follow official RTA updates for the final opening schedule.
