[A new chapter in UAE transport](https://www.whatmatters.ae/post/whats-new-in-the-uae-in-september-2026-etihad-rail-dubai-station-new-nafis-rules) officially began on **September 30, 2026**, as Etihad Rail’s first scheduled passenger train from Dubai completed its journey to Abu Dhabi.

The inaugural service departed **Al Yalayis Station in Dubai at 6:14am** and arrived at **Mohamed Bin Zayed City Station in Abu Dhabi shortly after 7:28am**, marking the start of scheduled passenger services connecting the two emirates.

For commuters who regularly [travel between Dubai and Abu Dhabi](https://www.whatmatters.ae/post/etihad-rail-dubaiabu-dhabi-service-starts-september-30) by car or bus, the new rail connection introduces another major option for inter-emirate travel.

## **Where does the Dubai–Abu Dhabi Etihad Rail service operate?**

The new service connects **Al Yalayis Station in Dubai** with **Mohamed Bin Zayed City Station in Abu Dhabi**.

Al Yalayis Station is located near Jumeirah Golf Estates and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, providing access to Dubai’s wider transport network.

The Dubai station officially opened for passenger services on September 30 as part of Etihad Rail’s phased expansion of the national network. Etihad Rail had previously launched its introductory Abu Dhabi–Fujairah passenger service on June 30.

## **What happened on the first Dubai–Abu Dhabi journey?**

Passengers began boarding at Al Yalayis Station early Wednesday morning before the train departed at **6:14am**.

The launch included live performances at the Dubai station, while passengers aboard the inaugural service received commemorative gifts marking the occasion.

Travellers were also served Arabic coffee and specially prepared chocolates during the journey.

The first train subsequently arrived at Mohamed Bin Zayed City Station in Abu Dhabi, completing the historic first scheduled passenger trip from Dubai.

## **How long does Dubai to Abu Dhabi take by Etihad Rail?**

Etihad Rail’s booking information lists the Dubai–Abu Dhabi journey at approximately **57 minutes** for scheduled services.

The inaugural service itself took longer than that standard scheduled journey, departing at 6:14am and reaching Abu Dhabi shortly after 7:28am amid launch-day proceedings.

That distinction is important for passengers: the normal advertised journey time should not be calculated from the ceremonial first service alone.

## **How much are Dubai–Abu Dhabi Etihad Rail tickets?**

Introductory online fares for the Dubai–Abu Dhabi route start from:

**Comfort Class — AED 39**

**Premium Class — AED 109**

Prices can vary depending on the booking channel and availability. Gulf News reported that a Comfort Class ticket priced at AED 39 online was AED 60 through station vending machines during its pre-launch journey.

Passengers can check current fares and schedules through Etihad Rail’s official website or its mobile application.

## **How many trains will operate?**

The initial Dubai–Abu Dhabi schedule includes multiple daily services, giving passengers options for morning, daytime and evening travel.

The rollout is part of a phased national passenger network rather than a single Dubai–Abu Dhabi route. Etihad Rail says passenger rail is intended to provide a reliable additional option for work, family and leisure travel between UAE cities.

Passengers should check the live schedule before travelling because departure times and service frequency can change.

## **[Dubai Metro](https://www.whatmatters.ae/post/dubai-metro-turns-17-the-milestones-that-transformed-how-dubai-moves) is a five-minute walk away**

One of the biggest advantages of Al Yalayis Station is its connection to Dubai’s existing public transport network.

**Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station** on the Dubai Metro Red Line is approximately a five-minute walk away via a dedicated pedestrian bridge.

This means passengers arriving from Abu Dhabi can transfer to the Metro without needing a car for the rest of their Dubai journey.

## **You can add a nol One-Day Pass**

Etihad Rail passengers travelling to Dubai can also add a **nol One-Day Pass** to their booking.

The pass provides unlimited eligible travel for the day across Dubai Metro, Tram and RTA buses.

The reported prices are:

**Regular — AED 22**

**Gold — AED 42**

Both the Etihad Rail ticket and nol pass can be accessed using a single QR code through the booking confirmation or Etihad Rail app.

## **What is available onboard?**

Comfort Class includes standard seating along with complimentary Wi-Fi, power sockets and USB charging facilities.

Etihad Rail’s passenger fleet consists of **13 trains**, with each capable of carrying up to **400 passengers** and reaching speeds of up to **200km/h**.

The service has been designed for both regular commuters and longer inter-emirate journeys.

## **Dubai is not the first Etihad Rail passenger route**

Although September 30 marks the beginning of scheduled passenger services from Dubai, the UAE’s national passenger network actually carried its first paying passengers three months earlier.

The first scheduled national passenger service departed **Fujairah at 5:34am on June 30, 2026**, travelling to Mohamed Bin Zayed City Station in Abu Dhabi. More than 10,000 tickets had been sold before that introductory service began.

Dubai’s launch therefore represents the next major expansion of the network rather than the first passenger train anywhere in the UAE.

## **Which Etihad Rail stations are opening next?**

Etihad Rail is rolling out the passenger network in phases.

Dubai and Al Dhaid stations opened on September 30. Etihad Rail currently says **Zayed City and Liwa stations are scheduled for November 30**, with the remaining Al Dhafra stations following on **December 30, 2026**.

**Sharjah Station** is scheduled to open on **March 30, 2027**.

The expanding network is ultimately intended to connect major cities and regions across the UAE.

## **Could Etihad Rail change the Dubai–Abu Dhabi commute?**

For residents who regularly drive between the two cities, passenger rail introduces an alternative that avoids having to drive the full distance.

The approximately 57-minute scheduled rail journey is only part of the calculation, however. A passenger’s actual door-to-door travel time will also depend on how long it takes to reach Al Yalayis or Mohamed Bin Zayed City stations and travel from the destination station to their final stop.

For some commuters, the Metro connection at Al Yalayis could make that onward journey easier.

## **Why this matters**

September 30, 2026 marks a significant milestone for transport in the UAE.

The completion of the first scheduled Dubai–Abu Dhabi passenger journey means residents now have a new way to travel between the country’s two largest cities without relying entirely on private cars, taxis or intercity buses.

With fares starting from **AED 39**, a scheduled journey of around **57 minutes** and direct access from Al Yalayis to Dubai Metro, Etihad Rail is beginning to move from a major infrastructure project into part of everyday UAE travel.
