How to Renew Your Emirates ID Online in 2027: Complete Step-by-Step Guide

Renewing your Emirates ID does not necessarily require a trip to a government service centre. UAE citizens and residents can complete most of the renewal process online through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP).
Using the official ICP smart services platform or UAEICP app, applicants can submit their renewal request, review their details, upload required documents, pay the applicable fees and track the application digitally. ICP currently lists the standard service completion time as approximately **five days**.
Here is how the process works based on the latest official rules available ahead of 2027.
## **When Can You Renew Your Emirates ID?**
The renewal window depends on your residency status.
**UAE citizens** can currently renew their Emirates ID when there is less than **one year remaining before expiry**. ICP expanded this early-renewal window from six months to one full year from July 14, 2026.
**UAE residents and GCC nationals** can currently renew when there are less than **six months remaining before expiry**, or after the card has expired.
Residents should remember that their Emirates ID validity is connected to their UAE residence status.
## **Where Can You Renew Emirates ID Online?**
The easiest option is the official ICP Emirates ID Renewal Service.
You can also renew through the **UAEICP mobile application**.
ICP’s online smart services operate **24/7**, and the renewal service requires login using UAE Pass.
## **Step 1: Log In With UAE Pass**
Open the ICP website or UAEICP app and find **Identity Card Renewal**.
Sign in using your UAE Pass account.
The system will retrieve available personal and identity information linked to your account.
## **Step 2: Review Your Personal Details**
Check all information displayed in the application carefully.
Make sure details such as your name, passport information, nationality, mobile number and other personal information are correct.

Importantly, the new photograph should not be identical to the photograph currently printed on your Emirates ID.

Dubai residents should follow the residency renewal procedure applicable to their visa and sponsoring authority before or alongside the Emirates ID process.
## **Step 6: Complete Biometrics If Required**
Not every renewal requires another visit for fingerprints.
However, ICP states that individuals who have completed **15 years of age** must complete the required fingerprint and signature procedures through an ICP service centre when applicable.
If biometrics are required for your application, the system will direct you to complete them.
## **Step 7: Pay the Emirates ID Renewal Fees**
For UAE residents, ICP currently charges:
**AED 100 per year of residence** for Emirates ID renewal.
A **AED 100 smart application fee** also applies to the resident renewal service.
For example, the ID renewal component for a two-year residence period would be AED 200, before the applicable smart-service fee and any other residence-related charges.
For UAE citizens, the current Emirates ID renewal fee is **AED 100 for a five-year card** for citizens under 21 and **AED 200 for a 10-year card** for citizens aged 21 and above.
Always use the final amount displayed by ICP at checkout because government fees and related residence charges may change before or during 2027.
## **Step 8: Submit the Application**
Review everything one final time before paying and submitting.
Incorrect information, an unsuitable photograph or missing documents can cause the application to be returned for modification.
If ICP returns the application, complete the requested changes within the specified period. Otherwise, the application may be cancelled.

You can track your application through your ICP account under **My Applications/My Requests**.

Once the renewal is approved and the card is issued, the new Emirates ID is delivered through the authorised delivery provider for the standard service.

## **Can You Get an Emirates ID Urgently?**
Yes.
ICP offers an urgent Emirates ID service through its service centres for an additional **AED 150** under applicable categories.
Unlike the normal online renewal process, applicants requesting urgent service need to visit an ICP service centre and initiate the request through a service officer.
## **What Happens If Your Emirates ID Expires?**
ICP currently provides a **30-day grace period after the Emirates ID expires** to complete renewal procedures.
After that period, a late-renewal fine of **AED 20 per day** can apply, up to a maximum of **AED 1,000**.
