Saudi Arabia has launched a new hydrogen-powered heavy-duty freight truck with autonomous driving technology, marking a major step in the Kingdom’s push towards cleaner and smarter logistics.

The launch was sponsored by Saudi Arabia’s [Transport General Authority](https://tga.gov.sa/) and is part of the country’s efforts to accelerate advanced transport technologies, reduce carbon emissions and improve freight efficiency.

According to the [Saudi Press Agency](https://www.spa.gov.sa/), the truck runs on clean hydrogen, produces **zero carbon emissions during operation**, can be refuelled within minutes and offers a driving range of up to **1,500 kilometres**.

## What makes the hydrogen freight truck different?

The new vehicle combines two major technologies: hydrogen fuel-cell power and autonomous driving systems.

Hydrogen-powered trucks use fuel cells to convert hydrogen into electricity, producing water vapour instead of tailpipe carbon emissions. This makes them attractive for heavy-duty freight, where long range, quick refuelling and high payload capability are important.

Unlike conventional diesel freight trucks, the Saudi hydrogen truck is designed to support long-haul operations with lower emissions and advanced digital systems.
