UAE Golden Visa 2026: Is AED 30,000 Basic Salary Still Required?

Current official guidance from the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) states that specialised professionals must earn a **monthly salary of at least AED 30,000**. The federal wording says “monthly salary”; it does **not describe the threshold specifically as AED 30,000 basic salary**.
For applicants in Dubai, the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) likewise currently states a minimum **monthly salary of AED 30,000** and asks skilled professional applicants for a valid employment contract or salary certificate plus bank statements showing salary transfers for the previous six months.
## **So, does your basic salary alone need to be AED 30,000?**
Based on the **current published ICP and GDRFA requirements**, the official criterion is a **monthly salary of at least AED 30,000**.
The published rules do not state on these current service pages that the applicant’s **basic salary alone must equal AED 30,000**.
This distinction matters because UAE employment packages often separate basic salary from allowances for housing, transport or other benefits.
For example, someone might have a basic salary of AED 20,000 plus fixed allowances that bring the documented monthly salary to AED 30,000 or more.
However, meeting AED 30,000 on paper does not automatically guarantee approval. The immigration authority reviews the employment contract, salary documentation, bank transfers, occupational classification and other eligibility requirements before granting the Golden Residency. Dubai’s GDRFA explicitly states that final approval remains subject to its assessment.
## **Who does the AED 30,000 rule apply to?**
The salary requirement applies specifically to the **specialised/skilled professional route** to Golden Residency.
ICP currently includes skilled professionals in senior occupational levels under the Scientists and Specialists category. Eligible professionals must generally be classified at **occupational level 1 or 2** under the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation’s approved occupational classification.
This can include qualifying professionals and specialists working in areas such as science, engineering, information technology, business and management, education, law and other recognised professional fields.
## **What are the main requirements in 2026?**
For the specialised professional route, applicants generally need a valid UAE work permit under an approved employment contract, classification within the required senior professional level, at least a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, and a monthly salary of at least AED 30,000.
Applicants must also have comprehensive valid health insurance, and professions requiring a professional licence must provide the relevant licence.
For qualifications obtained outside the UAE, Dubai’s GDRFA also requires the appropriate Ministry of Education recognition documentation.
## **Dubai applicants need six months of salary records**
One particularly important requirement for Dubai applicants is proof that the salary is actually being paid.
GDRFA currently lists a **bank statement showing salary transfers for the previous six months** among the documents required from skilled professionals.
This means an employment contract stating AED 30,000 may not, by itself, be enough.
Applicants should make sure the salary appearing in their employment documents corresponds with the amounts transferred into their bank account.
## **What if your salary is below AED 30,000?**
A professional earning less than AED 30,000 per month would not meet the published salary requirement for this particular Golden Residency category.
However, the Golden Visa has several other eligibility routes, and not all of them depend on earning AED 30,000.
ICP currently lists categories including investors, entrepreneurs, scientists, exceptional talents, humanitarian pioneers, outstanding students and graduates, frontline workers and specialised professionals. Each has its own requirements.
So earning below AED 30,000 does not necessarily mean someone can never qualify for a UAE Golden Visa — it means they would not satisfy the salary condition for the specialised-professional route.
## **What about the UAE Green Visa?**
Professionals earning below the Golden Visa threshold may also want to check whether they qualify for the UAE’s **five-year Green Residency**.
ICP currently requires skilled-worker applicants to have a valid UAE employment contract, fall within occupational levels 1 to 3, hold at least a bachelor’s degree and earn a minimum monthly salary of **AED 15,000**.
The Green Residency is different from the 10-year Golden Residency, but it provides qualifying professionals with self-sponsored residency without requiring an employer to act as their residency sponsor.
## **Is the Golden Visa still valid for 10 years?**
Yes. ICP’s current Golden Residency guide lists a **10-year residency period** for eligible skilled professionals in senior occupational levels.
Golden Residency also allows qualifying holders to sponsor spouses and children regardless of age, sponsor parents and domestic workers under applicable rules, and live, work, study and invest in the UAE without requiring a traditional residency sponsor.
## **What happens if your salary later falls below AED 30,000?**
This is particularly important for Dubai Golden Visa holders.
GDRFA currently states that maintaining the conditions of the Golden Residency is required and specifically notes that if the salary falls below **AED 30,000** or the employment contract is cancelled, the Golden Residence Permit can be cancelled.
Golden Visa holders who change jobs or experience a significant salary change should therefore verify their status with GDRFA or ICP rather than assuming the visa remains unaffected.

Applicants outside Dubai can check their eligibility and application options through the official ICP Golden Residency portal.
Dubai applicants can use the GDRFA Dubai Golden Residence service or an authorised Amer centre.
