What to Do in Abu Dhabi: Your Guide to the City’s Must-See Spots

Abu Dhabi has evolved into a destination where grand architecture, Emirati heritage, beaches, museums, nature and record-breaking entertainment all fit into one trip.
Whether you are visiting the UAE capital for the first time or planning a weekend from Dubai, there is much more to explore than a quick stop at the Grand Mosque. From the expanding Saadiyat Cultural District to Yas Island’s theme parks and the peaceful mangroves of Jubail Island, here are the Abu Dhabi spots worth adding to your list in 2026.
## **1\. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque**
No Abu Dhabi guide is complete without Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
One of the UAE capital’s defining landmarks, the mosque is known for its white marble architecture, reflective pools, elaborate chandeliers, mosaics and enormous hand-knotted carpet. It welcomes visitors of different faiths and is also one of the best places to learn about Islamic architecture and culture.
**Entry:** Free, but visitors should book their visit online.
**Best time:** Early morning or late afternoon, especially if you want softer light for photographs.
Visitors should dress respectfully, with shoulders and knees covered, and women should bring or wear an appropriate head covering.
## **2\. Louvre Abu Dhabi**
Louvre Abu Dhabi is as impressive for its architecture as it is for the art inside.
Located in Saadiyat Cultural District, it is the Arab world’s first universal museum. Its galleries connect artworks and objects from different civilisations and historical periods rather than simply separating them geographically.
One of its most recognisable features is the enormous geometric dome, which creates the museum’s famous “rain of light” effect.
Allow around two to three hours if you want to explore it properly.
## **3\. Zayed National Museum**
One of the major additions to Abu Dhabi’s cultural scene is Zayed National Museum.
The museum explores the history of the UAE through the life and legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, while also looking further back at the region’s history, trade and culture.
It makes a natural addition to a Saadiyat itinerary alongside Louvre Abu Dhabi and teamLab Phenomena.
## **4\. teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi**
For something completely different, visit teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi.
Opened in 2025, the immersive digital-art museum uses light, water, sound and movement to create installations that react to visitors.
Instead of simply looking at art hanging on walls, you move through environments that continuously transform around you.
The attraction is open daily from 10am to 10pm, with regular admission currently starting from AED 155. From 6pm Monday to Thursday, sessions are restricted to visitors aged 18 and above. Prices and timings can change, so check before booking.
## **5\. Qasr Al Watan**
Qasr Al Watan offers visitors a look inside the UAE’s Presidential Palace complex.
Inside, you can explore the spectacular Great Hall, exhibitions, library and spaces explaining the UAE’s governance, knowledge and diplomatic traditions.
Its elaborate interiors make it one of Abu Dhabi’s strongest architectural attractions, particularly for first-time visitors.
If available on the day of your visit, consider staying for the evening Palace in Motion light show.
## **6\. Qasr Al Hosn**
To understand what Abu Dhabi looked like before its modern skyline, head to Qasr Al Hosn.
The historic fort traces Abu Dhabi’s development from its early settlement into today’s capital and incorporates the city’s oldest stone structure.
Pair it with the nearby House of Artisans, where visitors can learn about traditional Emirati crafts including weaving and embroidery.
## **7\. Abu Dhabi Corniche**
Not everything on your Abu Dhabi itinerary needs a ticket.
The Abu Dhabi Corniche stretches for around eight kilometres along the city’s waterfront and is ideal for walking, cycling, beach time or simply enjoying the skyline.
Visit closer to sunset during the warmer months rather than in the middle of the afternoon.
## **8\. Emirates Palace**
Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental remains one of the capital’s most recognisable luxury landmarks.
Even if you are not staying overnight, you can experience the property through its restaurants and cafés, subject to current visitor-access policies.
The hotel stretches along a large private beachfront and is known for its grand dome, elaborate interiors and landscaped grounds.
## **9\. Jubail Mangrove Park**
For a completely different side of the capital, explore Jubail Mangrove Park.
Located between Yas and Saadiyat islands, the area protects an important mangrove ecosystem and provides a peaceful contrast to the city’s towers and malls.
Visitors can explore the mangroves from walking areas or experience them from the water through kayaking activities. The landscape changes noticeably between high and low tide.
## **10\. Ferrari World Abu Dhabi**
If speed is more your thing, head to Ferrari World Abu Dhabi.
The Ferrari-themed attraction combines roller coasters, simulators and family experiences, and is home to Formula Rossa, promoted by Abu Dhabi’s official tourism platform as the world’s fastest roller coaster.
## **11\. Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi**
Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi is one of the easiest choices for families visiting during the UAE summer because the theme park is indoors.
Its themed areas bring together DC superheroes and characters from Warner Bros.’ entertainment catalogue, with rides and attractions suited to different ages.
It is particularly convenient when combined with other Yas Island attractions.
## **12\. SeaWorld Yas Island**
SeaWorld Yas Island Abu Dhabi combines marine-life exhibits, rides, presentations and educational experiences inside a huge indoor attraction.
One highlight is Endless Ocean, which the official tourism authority describes as the region’s largest multi-species aquarium, housing more than 10,000 animals.
The destination is also connected to Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue, a dedicated marine research, rescue, rehabilitation and return centre.
## **13\. Yas Waterworld**
For a summer waterpark day, Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi is another major option.
The Emirati-themed park combines high-speed slides with family attractions and gentler experiences for younger visitors.
It works particularly well as part of a Yas Island weekend alongside Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World and SeaWorld.
## **14\. Saadiyat Beach**
After museums and theme parks, slow things down at Saadiyat Island’s beaches.
Saadiyat is known for its white sand and turquoise water, offering a much quieter side of Abu Dhabi. It is particularly convenient if you are already spending a day exploring the museums of Saadiyat Cultural District.
## **If You Only Have One Day in Abu Dhabi**
Start early at **Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque**, then head to **Qasr Al Watan** before spending the afternoon at **Louvre Abu Dhabi**.
Finish around the Corniche or Saadiyat waterfront for sunset.
If you are travelling primarily with children, skip the cultural circuit and dedicate the day to **Yas Island**, choosing one or two major attractions rather than trying to squeeze all of them into a single visit.
Abu Dhabi’s official tourism authority recommends a seven-hour cultural route combining Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Wahat Al Karama and Louvre Abu Dhabi, which gives a useful indication of how much time the city’s main sights actually require.
## **If You Have a Weekend**
Use the first day for the cultural side of Abu Dhabi: Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Qasr Al Watan and Saadiyat Cultural District.
Use the second day for either Yas Island or nature. Families can spend it at Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World, SeaWorld or Yas Waterworld, while a more relaxed itinerary could include Jubail Mangrove Park and Saadiyat Beach.
Trying to cover everything in one day usually means spending more time travelling between attractions than enjoying them.
## **Visiting Abu Dhabi During Summer**
Summer temperatures in Abu Dhabi can reach 40°C and above, particularly from May through September, so plan outdoor attractions for mornings or evenings.
Museums, malls and Yas Island’s indoor attractions make Abu Dhabi particularly easy to explore during summer despite the heat.
Carry water, use sunscreen for outdoor stops and keep a light layer with you because indoor air conditioning can feel cold.

For an iconic first visit, choose **Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque**.
For art, choose **Louvre Abu Dhabi** and **teamLab Phenomena**.
For UAE history, choose **Zayed National Museum** and **Qasr Al Hosn**.

For nature, choose **Jubail Mangrove Park** or **Saadiyat Beach**.

Abu Dhabi is no longer a destination that needs to be squeezed into a quick day trip.
The capital now brings together some of the UAE’s most important cultural landmarks, major new museums, beaches, mangrove ecosystems and world-class entertainment destinations.
The best way to experience it is to mix the different sides of the city: start with its history and culture, add one major entertainment experience, and leave enough time to enjoy its waterfront and natural landscapes.
